Über den Job

The University of Bern, with support from the Manfred Stärk Foundation for Brain Research, is establishing a tenure-track Assistant Professor position at the Institute of Physiology to lead research in neuromorphic systems – an interdisciplinary field combining computational neuroscience, neuroscience, and engineering. The position will strengthen theoretical neuroscience research and align with the University's contributions to the European Human Brain Project.

Aufgaben

Establish and lead an independent research program in neuromorphic systems
Secure external funding for interdisciplinary neuroscience research
Develop theoretical models of brain information processing (neuronal activity, synaptic plasticity, machine learning, neuromorphic systems)
Foster collaboration across the Faculty of Medicine (Institute of Physiology, Center for Experimental Neurology, Neuroengineering Technologies Group, ARTORG Center) and clinical partners at Inselspital
Develop teaching activities in theoretical neuroscience, integrating theoretical concepts with brain-inspired hardware
Build and manage diverse, interdisciplinary teams

Profil

Fluent in English and German (learning window possible)
Proven track record in teaching and securing research funding
Expertise in physics, neuroscience, applied mathematics, or related fields
Balance of engineering and neuroscience knowledge
Strong collaborative skills across experimental, clinical, and theoretical domains
Experience with computational tools relevant to neuroscience and digital medicine
Leadership skills and excellent communication abilities
Commitment to diversity, fostering early-career researchers, and inclusive academic practices
